Mother of the Groom Duties
Your baby boy is all grown up and getting married! But what exactly are the responsibilities of the mother of the groom? Here is our list of traditional Mother of the Groom Duties:
Before the Wedding
Host a dinner to meet the bride’s family (or, if distance is an issue, call to congratulate the bride’s parents)
Let the bride and her mother lead the way during planning
Offer to help with vendor searches or crafty projects and be available to participate in wedding planning activities
Put together a list of guests and their addresses for the groom’s side of the family. Make sure this list is final when you send it over so the couple can properly plan for venue capacity.
Attend the bridal shower
Coordinate with the bride and the mother of the bride on wedding day attire
Spread the news about where the couple is registered
Attend the wedding rehearsal
Plan and host the rehearsal dinner
On Wedding Day
Walk in the processional or help guests find their seats before the ceremony
Introduce family members and family friends to each other after the ceremony and during the reception
Be available for family photos and gather your necessary family members for photos.
Dance the mother-son dance
Relax and have fun!
Offer to take gifts or personal items away from the wedding venue at the end of the night. The wedding planner will pack up these gifts for you so you don’t miss a second of the party!
This is an emotional and exciting time. Just remember to support the couple in their decisions, keep calm, and have fun bonding with your new family members. (And, definitely carry some tissues with you on the big day!)
