Best Man Duties

The best man is a stand up guy, which is why you want him standing up with you on your wedding day! But, what is the best man in charge of? Here is our list of Best Man duties:

Before the Wedding

  1. Be there (in-person or via technology) to support the groom during engagement/wedding planning

  2. Help shop for THE ring (if he asks you to help)

  3. Assist in planning what the groomsmen will wear on wedding day

  4. Lead the groomsmen and make sure they are all on the same page (attire, wedding events, travel logistics, wedding day schedule, etc.)

  5. Plan the bachelor party

  6. Attend all pre-wedding events (engagement party, bachelor party, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, welcome events, etc.)

  7. Coordinate with the wedding planner and/or vendors or Maid of Honor to be a point-of-contact on the big day

On Wedding Day

  1. Make sure the groom and groomsmen get ready on time and get to the venue on time

  2. Know how to properly tie a tie and/or bowtie

  3. Make sure everyone is wearing a boutonniere (if there are boutonnieres)

  4. Keep the groom calm and happy

  5. Hold the bride’s ring during the ceremony (or both rings)

  6. Sign the marriage license

  7. Keep the groomsmen around for pictures

  8. Give a toast

  9. Dance and have fun!

  10. Decorate the getaway car (if applicable)

After the Wedding

  1. Make sure any rented clothing (from the groom/groomsmen) is returned on time

This is a busy time, but it’s also a chance to hang out with your best bud a bunch before the wedding. Have fun!
