It's 2019, and We're Moody

From the Hip Photo

As the 2019 wedding season comes to a close, it’s time to look at how the wedding trends of the past have merged with the styles of the present. Couples today want their weddings to be about them! They want to create an intimate and personal wedding experience for themselves and their guests, but still want an insta-worthy party (sorry millennials, you can’t help it: 64% of you posted about your engagement within a few hours.) For 2019, it was all about the vibe! A wedding vibe is created by a couple’s personalities - their favorite things, favorite colors, hobbies, and traditions - that make up the overall wedding aesthetic.

2019 brought a new vibe that many people have been feeling: moody. A moody wedding brings in deep, romantic colors such as jewel tones, grays, and greenery with light touches of gold and a lot of candlelight. These weddings steer clear of anything pink and frilly, and instead adopt a rich, woodsy aesthetic. Because they wholeheartedly embrace rich tones, moody weddings fit perfectly into the fall and winter seasons. With the right touches, however, they can be adjusted to fit anywhere your date falls on the calendar.

Feeling the vibe? Try hosting your wedding at a warehouse or other venue with exposed brick or unfinished feel. If planning an outdoor ceremony, incorporating antique furniture with velour and dark wood make your wedding even moodier; providing your guests a chance to escape the crowd and take in the romantic scene. For decor, think mismatched centerpieces, deep woods, and earthy flowers and plants to create a hauntingly beautiful setting. A little too dark for your taste? Add lighter, muted colors like mauve or dusty blue to lighten up the aesthetic.

A moody wedding is definitely for the niche, the bold, and the people who just want to embrace a bit of the dark side. If you’ve dreamed of sticking to a lighter version of your fairy tale, we can promise that will never go out of style. If, however, you’re thinking of swapping your grand flower arch for a darker, rich aesthetic, we say go for it. After all, it’s 2019, and we’re feeling moody.
