Maid of Honor Duties

Your maid of honor (or matron of honor, or man of honor) is your best friend, your confidant, and the person you want standing next to you on your wedding day. It’s so fun to ask your bestie to be your MOH, and there are so many fun ways to ask! But, what exactly are you asking your MOH to commit to? Here is our list of go-to Maid of Honor Duties:

Before the Wedding

  1. Be there (in-person or via technology) to support the bride with her wedding planning decisions

  2. Help shop for THE dress (and learn how to bustle it – attend the final dress fitting, if you can)

  3. Assist in planning what the bridesmaids will wear on wedding day

  4. Lead the bridal party and make sure the bridesmaids are all on the same page (attire, wedding events, travel logistics, wedding day schedule, etc.)

  5. Plan the bachelorette party

  6. Assist in planning (or co-hosting) the bridal shower

  7. Attend all pre-wedding events (engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, welcome events, etc.)

  8. Coordinate with the wedding planner and/or vendors and the best man to be a point-of-contact on the big day

  9. Make a small day-of wedding emergency kit- tweezers, bobby pins, safety pins, mini hairspray, etc. The wedding planner will come to wedding day with a complete emergency bag (aka way too many items!) but it is helpful to have a mini kit for when your planner isn’t with you.

On Wedding Day

  1. Play “gatekeeper” wherever the bride is getting ready so that she only sees who she wants to see

  2. Get dressed with the bridal party

  3. Keep the bride calm and happy (keep some tissues on you, in case of happy tears!)

  4. Hold the bride’s phone and/or clutch for her

  5. Arrange the bride’s train/veil at the altar

  6. Hold the bride’s bouquet and the groom’s ring during the ceremony (unless the best man is holding both rings)

  7. Sign the marriage license

  8. Keep the bridesmaids around for pictures

  9. Bustle the bride’s train (and help her go to the bathroom if needed. What are best friend’s for?)

  10. Give a toast

  11. Dance and have fun!

Have fun celebrating your big day with your best friend!
